About The Sound on Stage
What people are saying about The Sound on Stage
"In the current 'Great Restructuring' of the post-pandemic Pacific Northwest arts landscape, Greg Heilman and The Sound on Stage have become an indispensable pillar of our theatrical ecosystem. Greg is more than a reviewer; he is a Theater Appraiser. He possesses the rare ability to look past the surface and identify exactly what is valuable and vital about a production, regardless of its scale. His commitment to highlighting the excellence within the Puget Sound theater community provides a level of professional validation that is essential for the sustainability of the arts in our region."
— Mark Chenovick, Managing Artistic Director, SecondStory Repertory
“The Sound on Stage has been an incredible force for good in our theatre community. Not only do they attend and review hundreds of shows each year, they keep finding ways to uplift and celebrate theatre artists, companies, and projects. For so many of us, one of the most anticipated nights of the year is the Sound on Stage Awards, when we all gather to celebrate the work of our fellow theatre makers. Everyone is included, from small far-flung community theaters to the bigger LORT companies in town. Everyone is made to feel like they are all equally necessary and appreciated in this vibrant theatre multi-verse. We're so grateful for the infusion of energy the Sound on Stage has brought to the PNW theatre scene!”
— Molly Hall, Engagement Director, As If Theatre, Co-Founder, Circle of Fire Theatre
The Sound on Stage is collaborative effort to foster the community that the performing arts creates. Whether you tread the boards, provide music, shine the lights, paint the sets, work the front of house, or are just a fan, we want to share the love of art with everyone. Make a movie? We’d love to share it. Play music? We want to amplify it. Work in live theater? We want everyone to see your work! Let’s build relationships, showcase talent, share resources, and see the performing arts grow!
About Greg
Originally from SE Pennsylvania, Greg moved with his family to the PNW in 2014. Shortly thereafter, Greg was introduced to local theatre, first as “Angry Santa” (among others) in A Christmas Story, then went on to be in five shows over the next two years.
A longtime fan of film and the stage, Greg brings a natural curiosity and genuine interest to his interviews and a critical, but level-headed philosophy to his reviews. He is a former member on Board of Directors of the Historic Roxy Theatre in Bremerton, WA, and is a current member of the American Theatre Critics Association. Greg is dedicated to increasing awareness of the arts in the community and beyond.
