Behind the Curtain - Fuselage (Fundraiser Event at Bainbridge Performing Arts)
For many of us, the events of December 21, 1988 and the terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, represented the first time we ever felt vulnerable as a country. Following the cold war, in which we escaped unscathed, despite the overarching threats on both sides, Americans felt complacent in their security. But this event changed all of that. And for people like Annie Lareau, it was even more personal. Annie was scheduled to be on that flight, and while she wasn't, many of her classmates and close friends were, resulting in their loss of life, and an unfathomable amount of grief on Annie's side. But where do we turn in times of our greatest difficulty? To art. And that's what the subject of this latest episode of Behind the Curtain with The Sound on Stage is all about, Annie's play, Fuselage, a humorous and compassionate, and altogether human, reflection of her experience surrounding the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103.
Annie and her good friend Peter Dylan O'Connor join us for this interview to talk about the building of the play, Annie's emotion and love that she poured into it, what audiences can expect when they see it, and her goal of bringing it to this summer's Edinburgh Fringe Festival. To that end, Bainbridge Performing Arts is holding a fundraiser performance of Fuselage on Thursday, April 10 in its Cynthia Sears Studio to help raise money for that goal, and to give folks an opportunity to see the piece first hand. We'll be there, and we hope you can join us. We also hope you enjoy this interview with Annie and Peter, both of whom are starring in the show, which is directed by Makaela Milburn, along with Brenda Joyner.
