Behind the Curtain - Once on This Island (Village Theatre) - Director Ameenah Kaplan
If you read our review for Village Theatre's production of Once on This Island, you'll recall that one of the callouts we made was the immersive nature, not just of the set, but of the entire production. Much of that has to do with the vision of the show's director Ameenah Kaplan. In this episode, we go Behind the Curtain with Ameenah to discuss how Once on This Island came together, how she builds immersion into all of her shows, including last season's Lydia and the Troll at Seattle Rep, and Village's How to Break.
Ameenah also explains her process for directing shows in various locations across the country (including Seattle) when she is based in Florida. Finally, we chat about some of the other shows she's worked on through the years (Stomp, The Lion King, etc.) and her work as a Disney Cast Member, how the storytelling that is part of her work there bleeds into her theatrical work and some of her current projects that she is working on for Disney.
