Behind the Curtain - Romeo and Juliet (Seattle Shakespeare)
The latest rendition of perhaps Shakespeare's most famous work, Romeo and Juliet, is being presented by the Seattle Shakespeare Company, in a production directed by Sheila Daniels and opening on April 24. The show runs through May 12 and features the latest guest in our Behind the Curtain series, Sarah Harlett. Sarah has had (and continues to have) a long and productive relationship with the theatre, having served as both Dramaturg and Intimacy Coordinator on their last production, Keiko Green's outstanding original play The Bed Trick. Here, Sarah is playing Juliet's nurse, her confident, and a character that is crucial to the telling of this classic story.
We talked with Sarah about her relationship with Seattle Shakespeare, her work on The Bed Trick, and her current role, including how she prepares for a role that has been performed so many times on stage and screen and what she does to make it her own. It's a wonderful and insightful conversation, so please enjoy this episode as we go Behind the Curtain with Sarah Harlett. (And with apologies to Sarah for our mispronunciation of her name, there is not a third "T" in Harlett).
