Behind the Curtain - Wild Man of the Wynoochee (Key City Public Theatre)
There is always something special, or ground breaking, going on in the quaint little coastal town of Port Townsend, WA, and at Key City Public Theatre. Executive Artistic Director Denise Winter has made Key City a destination for artists and creatives who cry out for space to work on their craft in an supportive environment, and that's just what this theatre space affords them. The latest in a long line of new works that have been incubated by and have presented their world premieres at Key City is Wild Man of the Wynoochee, a collaboration between playwright Jessica Welsh and the theatre's Resident Music Director Linda Dowdell.
We sat down with the pair to discuss this brand new musical that takes a look at a real, but at the same time fantastical, figure, John Tornow and his descent into causing terror in the Wynoochee Valley (Grays Harbor County), in Washington State. Jessica and Linda spoke with us about how the musical came about, what it was like to build it out and then present it onstage in front of an audience, and where it may go next.
Wild Man of the Wynoochee runs on stage through October 27 at Key City Public Theatre in Port Townsend. For more information, including tickets, visit https://keycitypublictheatre.org/.
