Seattle Rep (Dámaso Rodríguez)

When Dámaso Rodríguez took over as Artistic Director at Seattle Rep, he had some big shoes to fill. Previous folks in his position over time have established Seattle Rep as a theatre where new works can incubate before moving on to bigger stages (proverbial and otherwise) and classics can be told in fresh, unique, and important ways. Dámaso aims to take that legacy and build on it, bringing his wealth of experience with him into the role, which is evidenced by his the Rep's 2024-25 season, his first full season as AD.

One of our first Get to Know a Theatre segments as Heilman and Haver was with the Seattle Rep, and not The Sound on Stage returns to get to know this new chapter in the Rep's history. Dámaso joins us in this episode to talk about that experience, how he came from Florida to the West Coast, and about his latest stop here in Seattle, where we hope he'll stay for some time. He walks us through that 2024-25 season and how it reflects his philosophy of programming and its intersection with the mission at Seattle Rep. On the directing side, we discuss the season opener The Skin of Our Teeth, which he is directing as well as his dream directing role. We hope you enjoy our interview with Seattle Rep Artistic Director Dámaso Rodríguez as much as we enjoyed chatting with him.
